Cloudera said it was named a Leader in the 2026 IDC MarketScape for Worldwide Data Intelligence Platform Software. The company cited the assessment’s focus on secure access and governance for distributed data, and on enabling use of that data for AI across cloud and data environments.
In its statement, Cloudera referenced research it said showed nearly 80% of enterprises reported limited data access across environments constrains AI and data initiatives, while just 18% reported their data is fully governed. Cloudera framed the issue as a need to balance broader distributed access with security and control.
Cloudera described a “unified visibility and governance” approach across a data estate, and said it brings compute capacity to governed data rather than requiring sensitive data to move to AI. It also said it supports open technologies, including Apache Iceberg and Trino, and includes Data Lineage and capabilities within Cloudera AI, along with Scale AI.
The company attributed the IDC comments to Marlanna Harrington, Research Analyst at IDC, and to Sergio Gago, Chief Technology Officer at Cloudera. Harrington said, “Enterprises are looking for data platforms that can provide the governance, flexibility and control required to support increasingly complex data and AI workloads across distributed environments,” and “As organizations move generative and agentic AI into production, the ability to securely access, govern and activate trusted data across those environments is becoming increasingly important.” Gago said, “Enterprise AI is only as valuable as the data behind it, and for the world’s largest organizations, that data lives everywhere,” and “Being named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape reinforces our commitment to giving enterprises the freedom to bring AI to trusted data wherever it lives.” At the end of the release, Cloudera also pointed to Cloudera EVOLVE26 on October 27 in New York City.
