1Password appoints Abe Ankumah as Chief Product Officer

1Password has appointed Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE) Ankumah as Chief Product Officer, effective immediately. Ankumah, a seasoned entrepreneur and product leader, will focus on growth and innovation for 1Password Extended Access Management, which secures sign-ins across applications and devices.

Jeff Shiner, Co-CEO of 1Password, emphasized the importance of strong product leadership amid increasing security challenges. He stated, “Abe’s experience as a founder, product innovator, and business leader makes him the ideal choice to help shape the future of Extended Access Management.” Shiner noted the relevance of securing both human and Artificial Intelligence (AI) identities in an evolving digital landscape.

Ankumah comes with extensive experience in enterprise Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), cybersecurity, and AI. He previously served as Vice President and General Manager at VMware and was co-founder and CEO of Nyansa, which was acquired by VMware. Ankumah has also held leadership roles at Meraki and Aruba Networks, and began his career at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

In his new role, Ankumah stated, “My focus will be on delivering a seamless, secure, and scalable platform that meets the needs of the modern workplace. We have an incredible opportunity to redefine how organizations protect identities, devices, and applications.” He will work closely with 1Password’s engineering, security, and design teams.

The appointment of Ankumah coincides with growth and strategic investment in 1Password’s leadership team, which includes the recent appointments of David Faugno as co-CEO, Jeannie De Guzman as COO, and Greg Henry as CFO. Ankumah will oversee product strategy and innovation, building on the advancements in the Extended Access Management platform, including the acquisition of Trelica and expanded integrations with AWS and Microsoft.
