RINA Wireless selects Mavenir to modernize its voice core
Mavenir and RINA Wireless extended an existing relationship by expanding hosted voice deployments on Mavenir’s Evolved Packet Core (EPC). The work centers on replacing part of RINA Wireless’s voice core with solutions that run in a containerized environment.
RINA Wireless selected Mavenir to modernize its voice core through a multi-vendor equipment swap. The announcement links the deployment of a new cloud-native voice core to RINA Wireless’s containerized 4G/5G non-standalone packet core and to reducing operational spend tied to software licensing, management, and hardware footprint.
The update includes Integrated Maritime Surveillance (IMS), Voice-Over-LTE (VoLTE), VoWiFi, and Voicemail solutions. The fully containerized voice core replaces legacy solutions that still Radio Access Network (RAN) on hardware dependent Virtual Network Functions (VNF). The containerized approach separates the control and user plane to support remote gateways for managing local traffic breakouts, which RINA Wireless said reduces costs of transport and latency.
The companies said RINA Wireless first deployed Mavenir’s future proof, cloud-native, small footprint containerized Evolved Packet Core (EPC) in 2022, and that it expanded services including Mobile and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) to new regions and remote locations.
