Telefónica Germany Migrates First 100,000 Customers to Mavenir Cloud-Native IMS on AWS

Mavenir said Telefónica Germany migrated the first 100,000 mobile customers to 4G/5G voice services using Mavenir’s cloud-native IMS solution on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The migration marked a step in a multi-year effort covering both fixed and mobile IMS networks.

Under a multi-year contract extension with Telefónica Germany announced in February 2025, Mavenir moved Germany’s 4G/5G voice services from its virtualized IMS (vIMS) to Mavenir’s cloud-native IMS platform. The work included extensive lab validation, with plans for additional customer migrations during 2026 and full migration scheduled for next year.

Mavenir’s web-scale IMS solution was described as providing voice over LTE (VoLTE), voice over New Radio (VoNR) and voice over Wi‑Fi (VoWi‑Fi), along with voice over NTN on a unified IMS core. Mavenir said the platform supports voice continuity across 4G, 5G and beyond and runs as stateless, containerized microservices built for automated cloud environments.

Telefónica Germany’s Technology & Unified Connectivity lead, Matthias Sauder, said the milestone involved transitioning core network and telecom workloads to public cloud infrastructure and cited a mobile voice services migration to Mavenir’s cloud-native IMS solution. Brandon Larson, SVP & General Manager for Cloud, AI & IMS Business Strategy at Mavenir, said Telefónica Germany uplifted the first 100,000 customers to 4G/5G voice services on Mavenir’s IMS solution running on AWS.
