Summary
Google's Tensor Processing Units will become available through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, making OCI the first hyperscale cloud platform outside Google to offer the chips. The move gives customers another route to running AI workloads on hardware built specifically for those tasks.
As models grow and production inference demands rise, the performance and economics of each training run and inference request carry more weight. The addition to OCI's AI compute portfolio gives customers infrastructure designed for near-linear scalability and highly optimized economics for their most demanding workloads.
Google's TPUs are custom accelerators co-designed with open software for the full AI lifecycle, and the architecture is designed to maximize processing per watt of electricity. The eighth generation introduces TPU 8t for training, which delivers nearly 3x the compute performance per pod over the previous generation, and TPU 8i for inference.
On OCI, Google TPUs can support large-model training and post-training, including dense and mixture-of-experts models, along with production inference for reasoning, agentic, and long-context applications. OCI supplies the power, cooling, and datacenter networking needed to deploy them at scale, and customers choose TPUs based on their workloads, performance requirements, and cost objectives.
Mahesh Thiagarajan, president, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, said, “Bringing Google TPUs to OCI gives customers access to multiple leading AI compute architectures in one cloud.” Amin Vahdat, senior vice president and chief technologist, AI & Infrastructure, Google, said, “TPUs give customers a powerful, purpose-built option for demanding training and inference workloads.”
Google TPUs on OCI will be available in calendar year 2027, ramping over a multi-year period to meet customer needs.
