Summary
Oracle has introduced new capabilities for Autonomous AI Lakehouse that aim to give users and AI agents business context, support multidimensional simulations, and strengthen data governance across the enterprise data estate. The company framed the changes around agents that need business context and policy controls to act on enterprise data.
Customers can now work with real-time operational data alongside Apache Iceberg tables while preserving business context, applying unified data governance, and avoiding unnecessary data movement. The updates build on the platform's open, high-performance foundation.
The AI Data Catalog gives a holistic view of enterprise data by mounting external catalogs, Oracle and non-Oracle databases, Iceberg tables, applications, and object store data without duplicating it, and it can query these sources live through the Oracle engine. A Business Semantic Layer converts raw data into business-aware information using catalog annotations, imported Oracle AI Database SQL annotations, and AI-suggested analytic views.
Expanded Iceberg support lets customers create, populate, update, and delete Iceberg tables with familiar SQL, and supports reusable data products with time-travel capabilities for auditability and recovery. Data Lake Accelerator delivered query execution up to 3X faster in benchmark tests on 100 TB TPC-DS data sets. A single control plane in the AI Data Catalog applies role-based, object-level access controls across Oracle, non-Oracle, and Iceberg data.
The Business Simulation Engine, built by natively integrating Oracle Essbase inside Autonomous AI Lakehouse, supports multidimensional simulations and what-if analyses on lakehouse data. It includes write-back, dynamic hierarchy rollups, and allocations. Liberty Energy, a North American energy services company serving oil and natural gas producers, is using the platform to unify financial, operational, supply chain, and workforce data across its multicloud environment.
Rhett Rowan, vice president of IT at Liberty Energy, said “Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse gives decision-makers real-time visibility into field revenue, inventory usage, costs, and profitability.” According to Oracle, the AI Data Catalog and Business Semantic Layer capabilities will be available within the next 12 months.
