Nutanix Introduces MCP Server for Nutanix Cloud Platform
Nutanix said it released an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Nutanix Cloud Platform. The server is designed to let AI agents use the Nutanix Prism v4 API Gateway to run authorized automation steps for hybrid cloud operations while keeping existing security controls in place.
Nutanix linked the release to the way modern hybrid cloud operations depend on access controls and technical procedures. It said the MCP server is intended to translate requests into infrastructure API actions and enforce corporate security and access policies during day-to-day tasks.
The MCP server implements the Model Context Protocol specification and supports AI agents and developer tools to interact with NCP through the Nutanix Prism v4 API. Nutanix said the Prism V4 API Gateway handles execution, governance, and security controls, including fine-grained role-based access control, throttling and metering, comprehensive auditing, and asynchronous task management.
For developers, Nutanix said the MCP server provides system blueprints so coding assistants can generate platform-ready scripts in languages including Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, curl, or other REST and JSON-compatible formats. It said the MCP server can be downloaded from developers.nutanix.com and used with customers’ own AI agents. Thomas Cornely, executive vice president, Product Management, Nutanix, said, “Nutanix has a long history of using automation to simplify complex cloud operations. The MCP server is an exciting next step on our journey, allowing us to bring the power of autonomous AI agents to cloud management,” and “By creating a secure gateway between AI tools and our platform, we are giving customers the confidence to safely use AI to operate and govern their hybrid cloud environments.”
Forward-looking statements in the release addressed availability and capabilities of the MCP server for Nutanix Cloud Platform, integration with AI agents and developer tools, and plans regarding the Nutanix Agentic AI solution.
