Micron Technology exits Crucial consumer business

Micron Technology said it would exit the Crucial consumer business and stop selling Crucial consumer-branded products through retailers, e-tailers and distributors worldwide. The company communicated a timetable for the transition and described the decision as part of a reallocation of resources toward its larger commercial offerings.

In its announcement, Micron said it would continue Crucial consumer product shipments through the consumer channel until the end of fiscal Q2 (February 2026) and would provide continued warranty service and support for Crucial products during the transition. The company also said it would continue to sell Micron-branded enterprise products to commercial channel customers globally.

Micron described its product portfolio as including DRAM, NAND, and NOR memory and storage products and referenced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and compute-intensive applications spanning the data center to the intelligent edge and across the client and mobile user experience. The company cited demand for memory and storage in those environments as context for its decision.

The announcement said Micron would work closely with partners and customers through the transition and planned to pursue redeployment opportunities for affected team members into existing open positions within the company. The company stated it intended to reduce the impact on team members through those redeployment efforts.

“The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments,” said Sumit Sadana, EVP and Chief Business Officer at Micron Technology. “Thanks to a passionate community of consumers, the Crucial brand has become synonymous with technical leadership, quality and reliability of leading-edge memory and storage products. We would like to thank our millions of customers, hundreds of partners and all of the Micron team members who have supported the Crucial journey for the last 29 years.”

The press release contained forward-looking statements regarding product supply and support, areas of growth and profitability, and workforce redeployment, and it directed readers to Micron’s Scope 1–3 Emission Calculator (SEC) filings, including its most recent Form 10-K and Form 10-Q, for factors that could cause actual results to differ.
