Microsoft's Group CEO Satya Nadella announced in Amsterdam that European customers could utilize Microsoft cloud solutions that keep data within Europe. This framework enables local operation and access by European employees, ensuring that encryption remains under customer control.

To support data protection, Microsoft employs encryption solutions developed in Germany, facilitating connections to its cloud with keys stored in Hardware Security Modules (Hardware Security Module (HSM)). Nadella noted the partnership with Utimaco, a security provider based in Aachen.
