Platform9 announces availability of Private Cloud Director Community Edition
Platform9 has announced the General Availability (GA) of its Private Cloud Director Community Edition, revealed at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe. This edition offers the full feature set for free for single-region deployments, without any hidden fees or time limits, and is supported by the community.
“Private Cloud Director Community Edition gives virtualization practitioners a way to test drive the easiest private cloud experience in the industry, at their own pace. We can’t wait to see what they build with Community Edition,” said Madhura Maskasky, co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Platform9.
This tool provides virtualization administrators with a familiar private cloud setup, equipped with features such as Virtual Machine (VM) High Availability, Dynamic Resource Rebalancing, VM Live Migration, and Software Defined Networking (SDN). The Private Cloud Director can be installed on existing x86 server hardware or virtual machines with a minimum of 32GB of Random Access Memory (RAM) and 12 CPUs and can connect to existing storage and infrastructure.
The Community Edition allows users to learn the platform at their own pace while considering options to replace legacy VM environments. It is well-suited for small-scale uses such as homelabs, test/development environments, and proof-of-concept labs. Built using open source k3s for a lightweight, single-node installation, users can set up Community Edition on a single Ubuntu machine. Those looking to deploy in production are encouraged to switch to the enterprise version, which offers 24x7 customer support.
