Illumio released a book by John Kindervag titled “Cyber Resilience at Machine Speed: The Zero Trust Model for the AI Era,” addressing how organizations handle breach impact as attacks and identities change. The publication centers on Zero Trust principles and how they relate to building resilience in an AI environment.
In the release, Illumio said artificial intelligence is changing how attacks are launched and how identities operate, while defenders face a continuing challenge: limiting the impact of breaches when they occur. The book states that core Zero Trust principles, including verification, least privilege, segmentation, and containment, remain relevant in an AI-powered threat landscape.
The book follows a five-step Zero Trust model and examines how AI, agentic systems, and non-human identities introduce security challenges. It also describes an emphasis on moving beyond a prevention-only mindset to contain breaches and limit their impact, including by using segmentation and policy-based controls and by turning business requirements into enforceable security policies.
Kindervag received contributions from cybersecurity leaders including Dr. Chase Cunningham, Clint Bruce, George Finney, Jason Garbis, Jonathan Flack, Lieuwe Jan Koning, Rich Mogull, Michelle Savage, Don Yeske, Josh Woodruff, and Tony Scott. “A wise person once told me there are no great books, only great chapters,” said John Kindervag, “So, I went to the people I trust and asked each of them to write their own great chapter.”
The release said the book was available for free download on Illumio’s website.
