Equinix opens SG6 data center in Singapore

Summary

Equinix opened SG6, its sixth International Business Exchange data center in Singapore. The facility is designed for AI, high-performance computing and data-intensive workloads, and it adds to the company's global footprint of more than 280 data centers.

Organizations are expanding investment in AI, cloud and digital services, which is increasing demand for highly connected infrastructure that also supports sustainability goals. SG6 is located in Singapore, which the company describes as one of Asia-Pacific's most strategically connected locations, and it combines private interconnection, global ecosystems and advanced infrastructure to help organizations deploy distributed digital workloads across regions.

SG6 uses proprietary cooling systems and liquid-cooling capabilities to support high-density AI deployments, including power-intensive GPU infrastructure. It is designed to reach a Power Usage Effectiveness of 1.20 and is targeting Green Mark Platinum certification. The design also includes rooftop and facade solar photovoltaic systems, rainwater harvesting and lower-embodied-carbon construction materials.

The initial investment is about $290 million. The first phase provides 8 MW and roughly 1,550 cabinets, with up to 20 MW of IT capacity at full build-out. A Co-Innovation Facility at SG6 is planned with the National University of Singapore for 2027, focusing on liquid cooling, cognitive digital twins and battery energy storage systems.

Adaire Fox-Martin, Chief Executive Officer and President of Equinix, said, “Singapore sits at the intersection of global commerce, digital technology and sustainable development. Equinix has been investing in Singapore for nearly 25 years, and our new facility will further expand our presence as the neutral exchange where enterprises connect to the clouds, networks and partners they need to innovate and grow.”

Cyrus Adaggra, President, Asia-Pacific, Equinix, said, “SG6 strengthens our ability to support customers as they scale across Asia-Pacific, providing the resilient, interconnected and sustainable infrastructure they need to accelerate innovation and capture new growth opportunities.” The company's forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties, and actual results may differ materially.
