Fortinet, Inc. brings FortiAIGate to Equinix Distributed AI Hub

Summary

Fortinet made FortiAIGate available on the Equinix Distributed AI Hub, a validated reference architecture for securing and governing AI as models, data, compute, applications, and agents become more distributed. The architecture gives organizations a simpler way to secure and govern AI across these environments.

As organizations move from experimentation to enterprise-wide AI adoption, workloads increasingly span clouds, data centers, edge environments, models, and data sources. That spread introduces challenges in governance, data protection, regional requirements, and performance. Embedding security and policy enforcement directly into AI infrastructure allows organizations to scale AI while protecting sensitive data, supporting sovereignty requirements, and maintaining visibility and control.

The Equinix Distributed AI Hub connects AI agents, models, data, compute, and cloud providers through private, high-bandwidth, low-latency interconnection. Within that environment, FortiAIGate can inspect AI traffic, enforce security policies, protect sensitive data, and provide visibility into AI usage. Its low-latency guardrails inspect prompts and responses in both directions and apply centralized policies across sanctioned LLM and MCP traffic.

Additional capabilities include per-token LLM cost tracking, along with budgets, limits, and alerts. Inspection and management stay within customer infrastructure, with no data leaving the environment, to support data residency and region-specific governance requirements. FortiGate provides visibility into unsanctioned AI usage across the network, while FortiAIGate governs approved interactions. GPUs, including NVIDIA GPUs, allow the network layer to perform inspection with zero performance impact on AI workloads.

FortiAIGate has been validated as an AI security guardrail in the Equinix Distributed AI Hub. Fortinet and Equinix also collaborate on network security through FortiGate VM on Equinix Network Edge, and the reference architecture covers AI traffic inspection and governance across connectivity, data movement, and interactions among applications, models, agents, and users. Fortinet’s Anthony James, Executive Vice President of Marketing, said, “Security needs to be built into that architecture from the start.”

Maryam Zand, Vice President, Partnerships & Ecosystem Development at Equinix, said, “AI isn’t centralized, which means enterprises need security that extends across every environment.” The companies point to a partnership page for further information on securing and governing AI across distributed environments.
