Crusoe, an AI factory company, formed a strategic partnership with Paraguayan energy and infrastructure developer Araico to build AI compute infrastructure powered by the Itaipú Hydroelectric Dam. The arrangement marks Crusoe’s first dedicated AI Cloud deployment in Latin America and extends its practice of placing compute at major energy sources.
Crusoe’s energy-first strategy places compute at abundant energy sources worldwide, and the Paraguay project applies that approach in Latin America. The deployment extends a footprint already spanning North America and Europe, deepening digital infrastructure ties throughout the Western Hemisphere.
The planned site sits adjacent to the Itaipú substation, allowing direct access to one of the largest and most reliable 100% renewable hydroelectric power sources in the world. Its compute capacity will support cloud demand from the United States and growing demand across Latin America through Crusoe Cloud.
Araico will lead local development and site infrastructure. Crusoe will manage, operate, and deliver the physical compute for Crusoe Cloud, combining its AI factory and cloud operations record with Araico’s local infrastructure development expertise.
“This partnership between Crusoe and Araico directly unlocks new value from our natural resources,” said Paraguayan President Santiago Peña. “This project has the potential to be the largest private foreign investment in Paraguayan history,” said Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
“Crusoe’s energy-first strategy is designed precisely to unlock and add value to this kind of power resource through advanced digital infrastructure,” said Cully Cavness, co-founder, president, and chief strategy officer of Crusoe. Crusoe plans to bring an initial deployment online in mid-2027, with a path to 106 MW of IT capacity and long-term options for approximately 280 MW in total.
