CalAmp launches updated Here Comes The Bus app

CalAmp launched an updated version of the Here Comes The Bus parent app that added enhanced safety and security controls, simplified parent onboarding, and new personalization features.

The company said the app is trusted by more than 1.7 million users across North America and that the release aimed to reduce routine support calls and improve transportation staff efficiency. The update also provided compatibility with select third-party telematics hardware to extend existing technology investments.

The release introduced a district-controlled measure that withheld bus location details on a map until a vehicle entered a defined radius, and it added Single Sign-On (SSO) support to centralize authentication and enable systematic deprovisioning. The app continued to provide exact bus locations on a map and offered optional alerts for arrivals and when students boarded or exited a bus.

The redesigned interface streamlined onboarding workflows and navigation to lower parent support requests, and it included optional student photo uploads for trip identification and simple controls to cancel pickups. The update combined these user-facing changes with back-end support for selected third-party telematics hardware found in existing deployments.

“Student safety remains the foundation of every enhancement we deliver,” said Thomas Polan, Acting General Manager, Student Safety Division.
