BT has launched BT TV, available to customers from today, with the stated aim of reducing the time viewers spend searching for programmes across separate apps and platforms.
Industry research suggests Brits spend around 182 hours a year searching for something to watch. More than 70% of UK households have at least one subscription streaming service, and viewing of YouTube on TV sets has doubled since 2022. The launch brings broadband, mobile and TV under one consumer brand.
BT TV is offered through two devices. The BT TV Box Pro combines streaming with the ability to pause and rewind live TV, and it can record more than 600 hours of content. The BT TV Box Edge brings live TV and streaming services together in a single, easy-to-use device. Customers can add another BT TV box for multi-room viewing.
A unified search covers live TV, catch-up and streaming services, and Watch List lets customers save shows and films. Customers can access Sky Sports and Sky Cinema channels through NOW, alongside a choice of two entertainment packages. NOW Entertainment includes Sky Originals, exclusive US shows and returning HBO series, and the NOW Entertainment and HBO Max package also includes every series from HBO Max.
Across the packages, customers can also watch all TNT Sports channels, TNT Sports on HBO Max and Netflix. BT Broadband customers with BT TV receive Apple TV for three months, with access to Apple Originals, films, dramas, comedies and family titles. Customers can switch packages month to month, and full package details and pricing are listed on BT's website.
BT described its aim to deliver more for customers across broadband, mobile and TV, including broadband that helps protect against scams and online threats and flexible 30-day Mobile plans.
