Hughes Network Systems and Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) worked on a contract for a JUPITER scalable gateway system to support NIGCOMSAT-2A and NIGCOMSAT-2B. The agreement covers ground system delivery and multi-band operations intended to support planned satellite capacity deployments.
Hughes will deliver the gateway system designed to support capacity deployment across the new satellites, with multi-band operations spanning Ka-, Ku-, and C-bands for high-speed broadband services. The project also includes preparation steps in 2026 and target readiness ahead of satellite launches scheduled for early 2028 and 2029.
Under the contract, Hughes described the JUPITER scalable gateway system as enabling multi-band operations across Ka-, Ku-, and C-bands. The planned ground solution is intended to support high-speed broadband and enterprise and government services, using capacity deployment across the NIGCOMSAT-2A and NIGCOMSAT-2B satellites.
Hughes said it would support NIGCOMSAT’s establishment of a local manufacturing facility by providing technical guidance, engineering support, and advisory expertise to help enable local assembly of satellite terminals in Nigeria. Anshu Vij of Hughes and Jane Egerton-Idehen of NIGCOMSAT provided remarks about the JUPITER platform and the ground-system readiness, and the project is expected to move through system preparation in 2026 with delivery of ground systems, terminals, and local assembly ahead of the satellite launches.
