Apache Software Foundation Names Apache Livy a Top-Level Project
The Apache Software Foundation said Apache Livy became a Top-Level Project (TLP). The change places Livy within the foundation’s process for projects at that level.
Apache Livy is described as a REST service that supports interaction with an Apache Spark cluster. The foundation also said it provides services and mentorship for projects and that its Apache Incubator hosts incoming projects called podlings.
According to the release, Apache Livy enables submission of Spark jobs or snippets of Spark code, with synchronous or asynchronous result retrieval. It also supports Spark Context management through a REST interface or an RPC client library, and it simplifies interaction between Spark and application servers.
In the foundation’s description, Apache Incubator hosts incoming projects (podlings) that want to enter The ASF and adopt The Apache Way, and Apache Livy is listed as having become a Top-Level Project.
