Apache Software Foundation Names Apache Iggy and Apache Sourcelume Top-Level Projects
The Apache Software Foundation named Apache Iggy and Apache Sourcelume as Top-Level Projects. The move places both initiatives under independent, community-governed oversight within the Apache Top-Level Project structure.
Apache Iggy is a persistent message streaming platform written in Rust. The project was described as being built for predictable ultra-low latency and a minimal infrastructure footprint.
Apache Iggy was developed around a thread-per-core, shared-nothing architecture and modern Linux io_uring, and it was described as eliminating userspace locks on the hot path. The platform was also described as natively supporting TCP, QUIC, HTTP, and WebSockets, with SDKs across multiple programming languages, an extensible connector ecosystem, and Viewstamped Replication Revisited-based clustering.
Apache Sourcelume is open source instrumentation for AI training-data provenance that was described as providing a shared, vendor-neutral way to document where training data came from and under what terms it may be used. Instead of introducing new dataset vocabulary, it adds an attestation and registry layer on top of existing dataset-description standards to sign, publish, and make metadata independently checkable. “From the beginning, we’ve had an obsession with performance, predictable tail latency, and infrastructure efficiency, treating them as first-class design principles for modern data streaming,” said Kranti Parisa, Apache Iggy PMC Chair. “Training data is the foundation everything else in AI is built on, and right now that foundation is largely undocumented,” said Jamie Goodyear, Apache Sourcelume PMC Chair.
