The Apache® Software Foundation Announces New Top-Level Projects

The Apache Software Foundation named Apache Fluss and Apache Pony Mail as Top-Level Projects. The designation gives both projects a higher level of governance status within the ASF and formalizes their place under the ASF’s project lifecycle.

Apache Fluss is described as an open source, lakehouse-native streaming storage system intended for real-time analytics and AI. It provides a real-time data layer for a lakehouse by combining streaming data, continuously updated tables, and historical lakehouse data through a common table abstraction.

Fluss integrates with compute engines including Apache Flink and Apache Spark. It also works with open lakehouse formats including Apache Paimon, Apache Iceberg, Apache Hudi, and Lance.

ASF also lists Apache Pony Mail as a web-based mail archive browser designed to scale to millions of archived messages with hundreds of requests per second. It supports browsing, searching, and interacting with mailing lists, including creating replies to mailing list threads, and it works in public, private, and mixed-mode configurations to provide a unified place for communications.

ASF previously described incoming projects through the Apache Incubator, and it said podlings enter the ASF and adopt The Apache Way.
