Microchip Technology introduces MCPF1525 power module
Microchip Technology introduced the MCPF1525, a new power module intended to address growing power requirements for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High performance computing (HPC) workloads.
The company framed those workloads as requiring power solutions that combined efficiency, reliability and scalability, and it said integrated power modules streamlined design, reduced energy use and supported stable operation in data centers.
The MCPF1525 used a 16V input buck converter and delivered 25A per module, with stacking capability up to 200A; the device incorporated programmable PMBus and I2C controls. Diagnostics reported over PMBus covered over-temperature, over-current and over-voltage protection. Microchip equipped the module with an on-board EEPROM for default power-up configuration and a thermally enhanced package rated for a Junction Temperature (Tj) range of -40°C to +125°C. A customized integrated inductor targeted low conducted and radiated noise.
Microchip packaged the MCPF1525 in a vertical construction intended to save board area and reported up to a 40% board area reduction compared with other solutions; the module measured approximately 6.8 mm by 7.65 mm by 3.82 mm. The company also described a broader offering of DC-DC power modules with input voltages from 5.5 to 70V in compact, rugged and thermally enhanced packaging.

The MCPF1525 Power Module was available at $12.00 each in 1,000-unit quantities and could be purchased directly from Microchip or through sales representatives and authorized worldwide distributors.
