Sophos and OpenAI Partnership Brings Frontier Models to MSPs

Sophos said it entered a partnership with OpenAI to bring OpenAI frontier models to managed service providers through Sophos Fusion. The effort targets how managed service providers deliver AI security capabilities inside the defense system they already operate.

In the stated approach, Sophos Fusion uses a single open architecture in which control points operate as one, whether they are native to Sophos or part of a third-party integration. The partnership is described as extending that open model by bringing OpenAI frontier models into a cyber defense system that connects endpoint, network, email, cloud, identity, and security operations, and compounds intelligence from threats it encounters.

Alongside the channel deployment described for Sophos Fusion, Sophos also referenced Sophos AI Defense, which it said was available for early access in August 2026. Sophos AI Defense is described as providing visibility into how AI and shadow AI are used across an organization’s environment, enforcing policy on that usage, and helping govern how sensitive data is used across AI models and tools, with an intention to expand protection with OpenAI.

Sophos said the work builds on its relationship with OpenAI through the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, where OpenAI works with cybersecurity companies to develop practical, governed solutions for defenders and to integrate frontier capabilities. Sophos added that it would share more information about the partnership and potential offerings in coming months.

“Frontier AI only protects organizations at scale when you have the architecture to operationalize it and the reach to deliver it,” said John Peterson, chief technology officer, Sophos. “Sophos Fusion will give OpenAI models a defense system to work inside: connected control points, shared context, and human accountability. Our channel gives them reach through a global network of more than 25,000 partners, including over 7,000 MSPs. For those partners, it opens a new class of AI security services to build a business on. That is how frontier AI reaches the organizations that need it most.”

Forward-looking statements in the announcement address anticipated products, services, collaborations, and future capabilities, with unreleased items subject to change and not guaranteed to become generally available.
