Sophos and OpenAI Partner to Bring OpenAI Frontier Models to MSPs Through Sophos Fusion
Black Hat USA coverage reported that Sophos entered a partnership with OpenAI to bring OpenAI frontier models to managed service providers through Sophos Fusion. The initiative places the models inside a unified cybersecurity defense system intended to support delivery through channel partners.
The collaboration centers on Sophos Fusion, which connects control points for cybersecurity functions spanning endpoint, network, email, cloud, identity, and security operations. Sophos said the approach is meant for managed service providers to use the frontier AI within the defense system they already operate.
Sophos Fusion is described as a single, open architecture in which control points operate as one, including capabilities native to Sophos and third-party integrations. The company said the system compounds intelligence from threats it encounters and extends its open model with a focus on integrating OpenAI frontier models into the connected defense system.
Sophos also described “Sophos AI Defense,” available for early access in August 2026, which it said provides visibility into shadow AI use, enforces policy on that usage, and helps govern how sensitive data is used across AI models and tools. John Peterson, chief technology officer at Sophos, said, “Frontier AI only protects organizations at scale when you have the architecture to operationalize it and the reach to deliver it,” and added that “Sophos Fusion will give OpenAI models a defense system to work inside: connected control points, shared context, and human accountability.” Alex Ryals, CISO & SVP at MicroAge, said, “Seeing a leader in security and a leader in AI commit to working together on exactly that challenge means we can offer a strong answer for our clients, and new services to grow on.” The partnership builds on OpenAI’s OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program.
