Smart Communications appoints Heidi Johnson as chief product and technology officer
Smart Communications appointed Heidi Johnson as chief product and technology officer, effective Jan. 28, 2026; the change followed the retirement of Chief Technology Officer Simon Tindal after nearly two decades, and Tindal remained as a full-time advisor to support the transition.
Johnson brought more than 20 years of experience building and scaling end-user Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products and the platforms that power them. She held senior leadership roles at Bloomberg, IHS Markit, Komodo Health, and Carta, and she served as Chief Product Officer in Residence at Products That Count and as a mentor with MIT Sandbox, with experience in customer experience, cloud platforms, data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in highly regulated industries.
Smart Communications said its Conversation Cloud platform powers omnichannel communications, intelligent orchestration, secure data capture, and digital archival. The company said the platform included more than 30 pre-built connectors to systems including Salesforce, AWS, Guidewire, DuckCreek, OneSpan, and Pega, and that it powered more than 60 billion mission-critical customer conversations each year.
Johnson assumed responsibility for the product and technology organization and for the company’s product and technology strategy. Tindal had a foundational role in building the company and will transition from the business to pursue new personal ventures while remaining closely involved as a full-time advisor.
“Heidi brings a proven track record of building and scaling enterprise-grade platforms, with deep expertise across product, cloud, data, and AI in highly regulated environments,” said Leigh Segall, CEO of Smart Communications. “Smart Communications is uniquely positioned at the intersection of deep domain expertise, trusted technology, and a clear vision for the future,” said Heidi Johnson, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Smart Communications.
Johnson’s appointment took effect Jan. 28, 2026, and Tindal will remain closely involved as a full-time advisor over the coming months to support the transition.
