Shell launches upgraded Helix Ultra Lightning engine oil

Shell unveiled an upgraded Shell Helix Ultra Lightning engine oil, referred to as Lightning 2.0, at an event in Abu Dhabi; the product was presented as the selected engine oil for the Ferrari racing team and as the first Shell product to carry a Ferrari-Red design.

Shell positioned the upgraded Lightning series within the Shell Helix Ultra family and described an exclusive launch through TUHU channels intended to reach drivers in China, framed by claims of powerful performance and comprehensive protection.

The Lightning series was powered by Shell PUREPLUS Technology, a process that converted natural gas into a GTL base oil that Shell said was 99.5% pure and formed the foundation of a fully synthetic engine oil; Shell reported the formulation produced stronger molecular bonds, formed a protective film rapidly under high pressure and heavy loads, delivered 52% better anti-wear protection versus Application Programming Interface (API) SP oils, and maintained 100% power performance for up to 20,000 km.

Shell identified approvals from major OEMs including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Volkswagen and said the product was suitable for models such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. Shell and TUHU described joint work that drew on TUHU's digital insights and user base to accelerate the integration of track-proven technologies into consumer-grade engine oil, and Shell made Lightning fully available on the TUHU platform with ordering via the TUHU App and one-stop service at TUHU workshops nationwide.

“TUHU will continue to strengthen its supply-chain capabilities and expand its premium product offerings in the car-care service market. Our goal is to make world-class products and technologies more accessible, allowing more drivers to enjoy high-spec services at competitive prices.” TUHU spokesperson said.

The companies described plans to launch the upgraded Lightning series exclusively across all TUHU channels.
