Schneider Electric introduced the Motivair coolant distribution unit (WCDU) to provide cooling capacity that combines liquid and air cooling within a single solution. The company said the unit was designed to support more flexible coolant distribution unit configurations for facility cooling deployments.
Schneider Electric described the WCDU as suitable for integration with fan wall air-cooling systems and for hybrid air and liquid cooling architectures in data centers. It also said large data center operators deploy CDUs outside the white space in technical corridors for easier service and maintenance, and the WCDU was optimized for technical corridor use.
The WCDU incorporates integrated pumps, heat exchangers and other components into a single steel frame. Schneider Electric said it offered multiple installation options through a scalable, multi-modal architecture, maintained zero lateral clearance, and supported approach temperature differences as low as 2°C. The company also listed supporting features including hot swappable pumps, PICVs, 25 micron filters, and a 15 inch touchscreen HMI.
Schneider Electric said a single WCDU could achieve cooling capacity up to 3.5MW at specified flow and could operate as part of a group mode system, with up to 20 WCDU units coordinating together to support larger data hall capacities. It also said deployments up to 2.5MW could be specified with N+1 redundancy for pump and valve backup, and that the WCDU would begin shipping in select regions in October 2026. “As the only CDU that brings together both liquid and air cooling within a single solution, we’re delivering a level of flexibility the market hasn’t seen before,” said Andrew Bradner, Senior Vice President of the Cooling Business at Schneider Electric.
