Platform9 enhances Private Cloud Director, introducing in-place cluster conversion for VMware migration
Platform9 announced enhancements to its Private Cloud Director, which now includes support for in-place cluster conversion via its vJailbreak tool. This functionality enables enterprises to migrate VMware vSphere clusters while keeping services online, thus minimizing business disruption and reducing migration costs to one-tenth of industry estimates.
Paul Nashawaty, Practice Lead at theCUBE Research, addressed the challenges of VMware migrations, stating, “63% of enterprise IT leaders cite migration complexity as the top barrier to moving off VMware.” He highlighted that Platform9 offers a low-disruption path to modernization. The updated Private Cloud Director also supports improvements like Artificial Intelligence (AI) hardware sharing and DevOps integration.
With the vJailbreak tool, Platform9 enables automated migration of virtual machines in a streamlined manner. It is capable of migrating both Vulnerability Management System (VMS) and underlying hypervisor hosts seamlessly. This addresses a key concern for organizations looking to modernize their cloud infrastructure without significant resource investment.
Furthermore, the Private Cloud Director supports both traditional applications and the deployment of AI applications within the same environment. It utilizes Machine Learning (ML) for efficient resource management and includes features that cater to the needs of enterprises seeking to incorporate both legacy and new workloads.
In addition to these features, the release supports edge deployment with two-node high availability clusters, responding to increased demand from industrial and manufacturing sectors. Platform9 continues to offer a Community Edition of its product, enabling broader access to its capabilities.
