NSS Labs has relaunched under new ownership and is offering confidential cybersecurity testing services for enterprises, vendors, and service providers. The company says the work is meant to support product validation, procurement, compliance, and accountability in security programs.

Research Overview

The company is now wholly owned and operated by its senior partners and executive team, with founder and CEO Vikram Phatak again in charge. NSS Labs says it will provide data-driven testing across on-premises, cloud, and third-party security deployments.

It also said the service is intended to help enterprises assess risk governance, supply chain validation, vendor accountability, and regulatory compliance. For vendors, the testing is meant to provide third-party evidence of product performance in attack scenarios.

Key Findings

NSS Labs said its services are organized around three audiences: enterprises, security vendors, and service providers. Each group receives testing designed for a different operational use case, from continuous validation to procurement support.

Service providers will get evaluations built for multi-vendor environments, along with data they can use to compare offerings and communicate service value. The company said those assessments also support operational readiness and roadmap planning.

Technical Breakdown

The firm said it will use live infrastructure tests against exploits, evasions, malware, and malicious URLs. It also said thousands of hand-crafted evasions are used to imitate threat actor techniques that try to bypass detection systems.

According to the blog, NSS Labs will combine those methods with scalable cloud infrastructure to simulate large enterprise environments. The company said it has expanded its testing portfolio to include AI and machine learning tools, ransomware defenses, and post-quantum cryptographic systems.

Operational Impact

Phatak said the relaunch keeps the rigor associated with the original lab while adding interactive tools and updated methodologies. He also said the company is focused on categories including endpoint, cloud, AI, and post-quantum cryptography.

NSS Labs said it is the official testing partner of CyberRatings.org, where it will help develop test methodologies and author individual and comparative reports. The company also said it will produce educational content for the cybersecurity community.
