Nokia to showcase optical innovations for cloud and AI at OFC50
Nokia will showcase its optical networking solutions designed for cloud integration and Artificial Intelligence (AI) demands at the upcoming OFC50 conference. The event takes place from March 30 to April 3, 2025, in San Francisco.
The rise in cloud services and AI applications is increasing data center capacity requirements among cloud service providers. Nokia aims to address these needs with a variety of optimized solutions that provide enhanced scaling capabilities while reducing power consumption.
James Watt, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Optical Networks at Nokia, stated, “The solution to challenges posed by AI and cloud-based connectivity demands starts with scale, but it certainly doesn’t end there. Nokia’s expanded portfolio of optical network solutions and technology capabilities delivers tangible network value that supports our customers’ long-term business success.” He noted that Nokia will occupy two booths at the show due to the breadth of its innovations.
Nokia's solutions portfolio includes several new offerings aimed at helping operators meet capacity demands while reducing power per bit, simplifying network architectures, and enhancing automation and security. Key innovations include:
- New Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Optical Line System for high-capacity data center interconnection.
- Pluggable Optimized Muxponder and Transponder (X-Ponder) Line Cards for efficient transponder aggregation.
- Multi-Haul 800Gb/s Coherent Pluggables for low-cost, power-efficient applications.
- Intra-data center connectivity solutions reducing power needs by up to 70%.
Nokia will also showcase its multi-layer networking solutions, featuring embedded optical solutions for scaling fiber capacity and enhanced security solutions aimed at protecting against hacking threats. Additionally, it will highlight AI-enabled network automation capabilities for improved service deployment across networks.
An executive briefing with Nokia’s leadership will occur on April 2 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. PDT, discussing industry trends and how Nokia is addressing operator challenges in the AI Edge Resource Allocator (ERA). This event will be available via live webcast.
