Micron Technology, Inc. funds Idaho transit, housing and savings

Micron Technology, Inc. is directing more than $67 million in new funding to Idaho communities that host its expansion. The investments cover public transit in the Treasure Valley, affordable housing and homeownership, and savings for children across the state.

The commitments extend a Community Investment Framework that the company set out in 2023 alongside Idaho Gov. Brad Little and Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. That framework focuses on transportation, housing, workforce and family priorities. Since 2023, the company has contributed approximately $75 million to Idaho communities through more than 100 grants, investments and partnerships.

The transit component totals $11.6 million over five years for Valley Regional Transit. It will establish a regional bus route linking Caldwell, Nampa, Meridian and Boise, expand VRT On-Demand service near the Boise campus, and add Park & Ride locations. Housing funds include $2.5 million in gap funding for the Lusk District Redevelopment Project, where geothermal energy will deliver heat to hundreds of affordable homes, and $8 million for LEAP Housing.

Micron expects to deposit more than $45 million into more than 181,000 Trump Accounts, also known as 530A Accounts, for children under 18 in Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore and Gem counties. Under the LEAP partnership, $4 million will add 30 two- and three-bedroom rental homes in Mountain Home, Idaho, and $4 million will support down-payment assistance for up to 200 first-time homebuyers.

The company also said it is working with the Ada County Highway District and the City of Boise on private funding pathways for the Lake Hazel and Orchard extensions, and it is studying further Interstate 84 improvements with the Idaho Transportation Department and other developers.
