Kyndryl to support Yamaguchi Financial Group core banking platform

Kyndryl agreed to support Yamaguchi Financial Group in building an integrated platform for the group's core banking system; the work was intended to let Yamaguchi Bank, Momiji Bank and Kitakyushu Bank operate on a shared IT infrastructure and consolidate application programs.

The companies described plans to streamline group operations and support future business expansion by providing an IT platform that enables new financial institutions to join and begin operations quickly and efficiently. Yamaguchi Financial Group described intentions to enhance its IT management structure and to create a framework for additional institutions to integrate into the platform.

The new core banking system platform was described to integrate the Operating System (OS), middleware and common infrastructure programs and to consolidate application programs into a unified environment. The PR said this approach would improve development productivity and reduce operational costs of the core banking system, and it noted Kyndryl Japan's decades of experience supporting mission‑critical systems and serving the financial services sector.

Under the agreement, Kyndryl Japan would manage the IT infrastructure domain and support the group's management in strengthening its foundation, while IBM Japan would support the business application domain. The PR also stated that Kyndryl leverages technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and provides end‑to‑end capabilities across consulting, design, build and operations to assist Yamaguchi FG's transformation.

The initiative began in January 2026, and the new system was targeted for launch in January 2029.
