IBM and the USTA Introduced AI-Powered Experiences for US Open 2025
IBM and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) unveiled a range of AI-powered digital experiences for the 2025 US Open, enhancing coverage for millions of fans. The updated offerings include 'Match Chat', an Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant, and an enhanced version of IBM SlamTracker, which provides live Likelihood to Win projections for singles matches.
The 'Match Chat' feature allows fans to obtain real-time information during and after matches be it player stats or match insights. Built on IBM's watsonx technology, it uses large language models (LLMs) to deliver contextual answers based on real-time data.
IBM SlamTracker now includes live win probability updates, reflecting changes throughout matches based on AI analysis. Additionally, the 'Key Points' feature generates concise summaries of articles and match analyses on USOpen.org and the app, catering to the growing preference for quick, digestible information.
A recent global survey conducted by IBM found that 86% of tennis fans appreciate AI-driven features, highlighting a shift towards personalized engagement in sports. Jonathan Adashek of IBM emphasized the role of data in creating engaging experiences for audiences. Brian Ryerson from the USTA noted the successful integration of technology to enhance fan connection and operational efficiency.
The US Open is scheduled to take place from August 18 to September 7, 2025, offering these advanced AI capabilities to enhance the overall fan experience during this prominent tournament.
