NEC Networks and System Integration Corporation, a partner of DriveNets, has delivered white box routers running DriveNets Network Operating System to OPTAGE Inc., an Osaka-based company. The deployment reflects growing attention to open networking, which is now being applied in Japan.
Network traffic has continued to grow as AI technologies see wider adoption and use, and service delivery models have become more diverse. Open networking can reduce dependence on specific vendors while making it easier to adopt new services and technologies. White box products extend this approach by allowing hardware and software to be selected independently.
DriveNets supplies DNOS, software for white box platforms. The white box routers delivered in this project use the cloud-native software design of DNOS, which provides scalability not constrained by physical limitations and allows rapid, flexible responses to traffic growth and configuration changes. Routers can also be combined with third-party products, which helps reduce operating and capital expenditures.
For this deployment, NEC Networks and System Integration drew on its experience across a range of network deployments to provide end-to-end support. That support covered pre-deployment validation, design, implementation, and technical support. NEC has also promoted white box products, including DriveNets solutions, as part of its open networking work.
OPTAGE Inc. said, “OPTAGE is advancing initiatives to open its networks and improve scalability in order to realize a network infrastructure that can flexibly accommodate future traffic growth and increasingly diverse services.” It added, “With the introduction of white box routers powered by DriveNets DNOS in the edge network domain, we are evaluating the effectiveness of an architecture that allows flexible selection of hardware and software.”
DriveNets Ltd. said, “White box routers powered by DriveNets Network OS (DNOS) have been adopted by many Tier 1 communications service providers around the world and, particularly in the United States, carry large volumes of traffic for AT&T and Comcast.” DriveNets plans to continue advancing open networking in Japan through collaboration with its partners.
