Daily Intelligence Brief: VIAVI Solutions, Nord Security, Aviz Networks, and NASA Developments - July 3, 2025
VIAVI Solutions Inc. introduced a new colocation capability at its VALOR Lab-as-a-Service facility in Chandler, Arizona. This upgrade addresses increasing demand for comprehensive testing services from Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) (RAN) customers. Supported by the U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration's Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund, the facility now provides enhanced flexibility and capacity for clients.
The colocation model allows clients to engage with the lab over extended periods, facilitating thorough testing throughout the product lifecycle. Network data segregation via VLANs ensures secure and isolated testing environments, optimizing performance. Erik Probstfield, Senior Director at VIAVI, stated, “We are excited to introduce this new colocation offering at VALOR.” He added that the facility can accommodate both vendors requiring specific tests and those seeking extensive end-to-end testing solutions.
This initiative aligns with the NTIA and PWSCIF's objectives to promote open wireless infrastructure development. The VALOR Lab also offers additional resources such as RF chamber capabilities for testing Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and beamforming performance, utilizing VIAVI's NITRO Wireless Open RAN (ORAN) Test Suite.
Nord Security released its annual Impact Report, detailing its commitments to sustainability and Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG). This report supports the company's mission to enhance online safety while benefiting communities and the environment. Co-founder Eimantas Sabaliauskas noted the report reflects their efforts to help individuals and businesses with digital control.
In 2024, Nord Security expanded its GHG reporting to include Scope 3 emissions, revealing total market-based emissions of 23,014 tCO2e. A significant portion of these emissions arises from indirect sources, prompting engagement with suppliers for transparency in emissions reduction. The company colocated servers in 37 data centers worldwide, with 50% powered by renewable energy from 32 locations.
Nord Security also concentrated on energy-efficient practices and community support initiatives, contributing to various social efforts and assessing sustainability risks to align with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Aviz Networks emphasized the need for adaptable observability solutions to meet current IT demands. Recent insights highlighted that traditional observability systems may not align with requirements for scalability and agility, leading to challenges such as increased costs and limited data ownership due to vendor-controlled environment constraints.
A new initiative called Deep Network Observability Interop aims to promote modular, software-first, vendor-neutral observability solutions compatible with modern technology. CEO Vishal Shukla stated, “This is the inflection point. Infrastructure teams deserve choices, transparency, and automation that scale.” This reflects the underlying necessity for adaptable observability frameworks as organizational needs evolve.
NASA awarded a contract to MacLean Engineering & Applied Technologies, LLC for simulation and advanced software services with a maximum value of $150 million. This contract spans from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2030, and encompasses a range of capabilities for space vehicle model simulations and robotic systems.
The Simulation and Advanced Software Services II (SASS II) contract includes providing task orders and supporting services for areas including guidance navigation and control, human biomechanical representations, and graphical support for simulation visualization. Major subcontractors involved are Tietronix Software Inc. and VEDO Systems, LLC.
