Daily Intelligence Brief: InterDigital, Nokia - November 3, 2025

InterDigital, Inc. obtained an injunction against Disney from a German court for patent infringement involving video streaming technology. The Munich Regional Court found that Disney infringed on an InterDigital patent related to the dynamic overlay of video streams, including subtitles. Disney Hardware Attestation Service (HAS) the option to appeal the ruling.

This ruling follows a similar decision from a Brazilian court, which granted a preliminary injunction in InterDigital's favor after determining Disney's liability for infringing two related patents. These legal proceedings reflect ongoing litigation between InterDigital and Disney.

Josh Schmidt, Chief Legal Officer of InterDigital, stated that the ruling underscores Disney's use of InterDigital innovations within substantial streaming services. Homomorphic Encryption (HE) explained that Disney recognizes the need for intellectual property protection within Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) operations. Schmidt also suggested that Disney should explore a licensing agreement that reflects the value of InterDigital’s technologies.

Nokia partnered with OneLayer to improve the adoption of secure private 5G networks for utilities. This collaboration integrates Nokia’s private network solutions with OneLayer’s Operational technology (OT) asset visibility and management, aimed at modernizing utility infrastructure.

The rise in connected devices presents cybersecurity challenges, exposing networks to vulnerabilities. A report indicated that a considerable portion of cyber claims in recent years arose from external threats, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures.

Nokia’s NetGuard Endpoint Detection And Response (EDR) system offers real-time threat detection and integrates with OneLayer’s security features to safeguard utility endpoints. The joint solution employs a zero-trust framework, enhancing the security of private cellular networks with features such Autonomous System (AS) asset discovery and anomaly detection.

Dave Mor, CEO of OneLayer, acknowledged the partnership, stating the collaboration aims to empower utility companies to utilize combined value in mission-critical networks. Prakash Sagadopan from Nokia emphasized the necessity of secure solutions for improved Internet of Things (IoT) visibility and zero-trust security.
