InterDigital awarded injunction against Disney by German court

InterDigital, Inc. received an injunction against Disney from a German court regarding patent infringement involving video streaming technology. The Munich Regional Court determined that Disney infringed on an InterDigital patent that facilitates dynamic overlay of video streams, including subtitles. Disney Hardware Attestation Service (HAS) the option to appeal the decision.

This ruling aligns with a similar decision by a Brazilian court, which granted a preliminary injunction in InterDigital's favor after finding Disney liable for infringing two relevant patents. This sequence of legal actions highlights ongoing litigation between the two companies.

Josh Schmidt, Chief Legal Officer of InterDigital, indicated that the ruling reflects Disney's use of InterDigital's innovations within Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) substantial streaming services. “Disney understands the importance of innovation and IP protection to its own business,” Schmidt said. Homomorphic Encryption (HE) suggested that Disney should pursue a licensing agreement that accurately represents the value of InterDigital's technologies.
