Astera Labs integrates Scorpio Switch with NVIDIA MGX platforms

Seamless Scorpio Smart Fabric Switch integration with NVIDIA MGX™ platform delivers PCIe® 6-ready modular designs for rapid deployment across a range of Artificial Intelligence (AI) servers.

A global provider of semiconductor-based connectivity solutions, Astera Labs, has announced the launch of its Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches specifically designed for PCI Express (PCIe) (PCIe)® 6-ready NVIDIA Blackwell-based MGX™ platforms. The product aims to deliver leading performance with a modular design that scales across different NVIDIA MGX configurations. Additionally, Astera Labs provides customers with resources for in-house testing through its accelerated test and interop development kit, featuring whitepapers, reference designs, SDKs, simulation models, and rigorous performance testing at the Cloud-Scale Interop Lab.

Mike Hendricks, Associate VP, Solutions and Ecosystem at Astera Labs, stated, “As AI infrastructure rapidly evolves, the need for flexible server platforms that can be deployed at unprecedented pace and scale has never been greater. Our Scorpio P-Series Fabric Switch is purpose-built for AI servers and seamlessly integrates with the NVIDIA Blackwell-based MGX platform, enabling modular PCIe 6.x-ready designs that accelerate time-to-market and deliver unparalleled performance for next-generation AI systems.”

Patrick Moorhead, Founder, CEO, and Chief Analyst of Moor Insights & Strategy, remarked, “The NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and MGX platform will power most next-generation data centers being deployed in the near future, designed to deliver ground-breaking performance, flexibility, and scalability. To harness these capabilities, flexible and modular connectivity solutions are essential.”

Astera Labs is also providing comprehensive design-in resources today for customers looking to integrate Scorpio P-Series—marketed as the industry’s first PCIe 6 fabric switch—into their MGX platform design. The NVIDIA MGX platform allows manufacturers to efficiently create customizable AI and High performance computing (HPC) servers while reducing development time and costs.

  • Optimized data ingest for NVIDIA Blackwell units in the MGX platform.
  • Increased Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) utilization with predictable, secure, and high-performance data flows.
  • Robust interoperability and line-rate validated in the Cloud-Scale Interop Lab.
  • Faster time-to-market and lower development cost with modular switch configuration.
  • Improved energy efficiency with maximum performance per watt.
  • Future-proofed switch boards for seamless transition to PCIe 6 data rates.

Enhanced Rack-Level Management with Visibility

Astera Labs’ COSMOS rack-scale management software offers extensive observability, telemetry, and diagnostics essential for optimizing GPU utilization and uptime within the NVIDIA MGX platform. COSMOS provides enhanced data link visibility and management capabilities when integrated with Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches and Aries Smart Data Stewardship Program (DSP) Retimers.

Andrew Bell, VP of Hardware Engineering at NVIDIA, said, “Astera Labs' PCIe 6-ready Scorpio P-Series integrates with the NVIDIA Blackwell-based MGX platform, facilitating modular designs that enhance efficiency for next-generation AI systems.”

Robert Lin, President of the Enterprise & Networking Business Group at Wistron, commented, “Wistron and Astera Labs have collaborated to empower AI and HPC servers with purpose-built connectivity solutions, optimizing the NVIDIA MGX platform to meet AI infrastructure demands.”

The accelerated test and interop development kit for the NVIDIA MGX platform is available upon request for select customers and partners.
