Advantech has expanded its Physical AI and robotics platform to address growing requirements for intelligent robots that are safe, validated, and deployable. The company, described as a global leader in industrial IoT, has positioned the update around the development of robots that operate in physical environments.
The release states that AI is moving into the physical world, with robots evolving into Physical AI systems that perceive their surroundings, process information, make decisions, and interact with physical environments. In that context, safety must be built into the system alongside perception and AI performance.
The platform uses a five-layer Robot Platform architecture covering Perception, AI Computing and Motion Control, Functional Safety, Production and Validation, and Deployment and Management. Its functional safety design separates the AI compute path from an independent safety path, which monitors system health, detects faults, and supports application-defined safe-state handling. The MIC-735-IT, powered by NVIDIA IGX Thor, can be configured with a Renesas Safety MCU.
Advantech supplies a Safety Manual, FMEDA-related evidence, and platform-level design and integration support for standards including IEC 61508 and ISO 13849. Final hazard analysis, system integration, validation, and certification are carried out by the system integrator or end customer, based on specific application requirements.
Magic Pao, Vice President of Applied Server Group at Advantech, said: “To scale robotics solutions in real environments, it requires safety to be considered in every layer, from the ground up. We're closing the gap with NVIDIA IGX Thor, offering an industrial grade platform that's purpose-built for safety-certifiable robotics applications.”
Advantech intends to show these capabilities at NVIDIA GTC Berlin 2026, where the MIC-742-AT will demonstrate multi-sensor synchronization, real-time AI computing, and robotic perception, and the MIC-735-IT will show a FuSa-oriented reference architecture based on NVIDIA IGX Thor and NVIDIA Halos.
