ABI Research reported that the edge AIoT chipset market reached US$32.7 billion in 2025 and forecasted growth to more than triple by 2031. The firm said enterprise adoption patterns point to more hardware demand for processing closer to operations.
ABI Research attributed the market expansion to OPEX optimization, citing edge AIoT’s effect on cloud storage, data ingress, and networking costs. It also cited memory supply constraints that push cloud-related expenses higher, along with data sovereignty and privacy requirements such as the EU AI Act, GDPR, and HIPAA, and demand for real-time embedded intelligence.
The research identified edge gateways and on-premises edge servers as leading growth engines. It also described edge MLOps for fleet-wide scalability as a tailwind, and it linked the hardware outlook to migration patterns that affect how deployments add capability alongside existing infrastructure.
ABI Research said brownfield environments were more likely to use retrofit approaches that preserve legacy sensors while adding gateways or on-premises compute. It also referenced vendors including Siemens, STMicroelectronics, Silicon Labs, and BrainChip. For greenfield deployments and redesign-cycle contexts that include automotive, smart home, and robotics, the firm said opportunities favored TinyML and AI-embedded endpoint hardware.
“Edge AIoT adoption is no longer just about adding intelligence to devices; it is about aligning AI investment with operational realities,” said Will Wong, Principal Analyst at ABI Research. “Enterprises are moving toward architectures that reduce cloud dependence, improve resilience, and create the low-latency foundation needed for physical AI, but vendor success will depend on how well they address deployment friction and human-centric bottlenecks.” “Market players that connect technical capability with ease of deployment, lifecycle management, and customer-specific operational needs will be best positioned to capture long-term value,” Wong said. “In a fragmented and increasingly competitive ecosystem, simplifying adoption for both IT and nontechnical teams can become a meaningful differentiator and, in some cases, support price premium opportunities.”
