Virtru and Ohalo Provide Integrated Data Classification and Persistent TDF Protection
Virtru and Ohalo provided an integrated solution that connects automated data discovery and classification with persistent encryption and access controls. The update targets workflows that address unprotected sensitive files found across shared drives and repositories.
According to the companies, the integration is intended to close a gap between locating sensitive data and applying protection when files meet policy criteria. The stated use cases include shared drives, federal repositories, and hybrid-cloud environments.
On the discovery side, Ohalo Data X-Ray scans documents and applies classification using three layers: natural language processing and machine learning for semantic precision, generative AI for document-level context, and rules for sensitivity and business logic. On the protection side, classified and labeled files are converted to the Trusted Data Format (TDF) and wrapped in encryption with a granular access policy that travels with the data.
The pipeline runs through Ohalo Data X-Ray’s admin console, which connects to the Virtru Data Security Platform using secure credentials. Administrators configure ABAC and attribute selection, with dry run validation before full deployment; the integration supports S3-compatible or on-premise object storage and works with OIDC/OAuth2 identity providers, including Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, and Ping Identity. “Organizations need to protect data at the object level, with security and governance controls that remain attached to each file throughout its lifecycle,” said John Ackerly, CEO and Co-Founder of Virtru. “Our partnership with Ohalo makes that possible by connecting intelligent discovery and classification directly to persistent TDF-based protection.
