Verizon and Corning described a multi-year supply agreement covering high-density optical fiber and connectivity solutions through 2032. The companies said the arrangement supports expansion of broadband access and development of a long-haul backbone needed for Gen AI compute.
The agreement covers 80+ million miles of fiber and connectivity solutions scheduled for 2027 to 2032, with deployment described as multi-use. Verizon said the fiber supply would support broadband expansion for homes and businesses and provide a scaled backbone intended for AI hyperscalers.
Verizon and Corning characterized the plan as a converged approach that connects mobile connectivity and broadband through a single architecture. The companies also referenced Verizon’s AI Connect strategy, describing ultra-dense cables across major long-haul corridors to connect data centers, while using fiber and connectivity to connect customers to the same backbone whether at home or on the move.
The companies said Verizon would deepen a 30-year strategic partnership with Corning to support manufacturing scale in the U.S. The PR also cited Corning® Contour™ Flow Cable as part of the fiber and cable supply, stating it enables deployment of more optical fiber within conduit pathways via flexible ribbon cable designed to increase network capacity and bandwidth.
“Securing this volume of fiber allows us to continue building the network of the future at an unprecedented scale,” said Kyle Malady, CEO of Verizon Business. “We are deploying a single, converged architecture that unites mobile connectivity and broadband into one seamless experience for millions of families and businesses, while simultaneously building the high-capacity, low-latency backbone AI hyperscalers demand. With Corning as our partner, we are securing the physical foundation of America’s AI economy.” “Corning is thrilled to deepen our three-decade partnership with Verizon as we provide our latest optical innovations in fiber, cable, and connectivity to link AI data centers together while ensuring more Americans have access to AI with high-speed fiber connections at home,” said Mike O’Day, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Corning Optical Communications.
The companies said the agreement and manufacturing support are intended to help Verizon execute its convergence and long-haul AI corridor plans through 2032.
