Verizon Communications Inc. said it committed a total of $70 million to Verizon AI Skills for America, an initiative intended to provide AI training and support for job seekers, early career professionals, displaced workers, educators, and small businesses. Verizon framed the effort as a way to help people adapt to changing work needs and to strengthen the U.S. economy.

The company said the $70 million included $20 million already allocated through its Reskilling and Career Transition Fund for departing employees, along with $50 million in new funding. Verizon also stated that the program combined access to AI skills training at no charge with collaboration across private, public, and non-profit sectors.

Verizon said it planned to curate a one-stop-shop portal that consolidated high-value training content from IBM, Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, Coursera, and OpenAI. It also said the initiative paired online training content with localized support from community nonprofits active in workforce development efforts, intended to convert coursework into practical, real-world skills.

Verizon described its community partners as Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), and Goodwill Industries International. “Strengthening the American economy starts with making sure every individual has the opportunity to adapt and succeed in a rapidly changing world. AI isn’t just a technological shift—it will change the face of every workforce around the world,” Dan Schulman, Verizon CEO, said. “Real workforce transformation happens at the community level in the neighborhoods where people live, learn, and look for their next opportunity,” said Steven C. Preston, CEO of Goodwill Industries International.

Verizon said the initiative would launch nationwide with core wrap-around services in select regional markets and would use real-time feedback to improve the program as workforce needs changed.
