Solo.io said it released agentdesktop, an open source project focused on governance for agentic AI tools running on end user machines. The release centers on applying policy, identity controls, and monitoring beyond existing infrastructure controls.

The company described a “production gap” between governance used in infrastructure and what is required to deploy agentic AI to production, noting that the desktop was added as a new frontier. It also cited claims that many executives and employees lack visibility into what AI tools are running and that some enterprises do not enforce access policies for AI identities.

Agentdesktop is described as an open source visibility, policy, and management layer that provides four capabilities from a single deployment: Discovery, Policy, Identity, and Observability. The project states it builds an inventory of harnesses, models, MCP servers, and skills; applies centrally declared configuration and reconciles drift; treats agents as non-human identities using OIDC-based binding and short-lived credentials; and supports opt-in session and tool-use telemetry based on selected events.

Solo.io said users can operate in standalone mode for local governance across installed agent harnesses, then move to fleet mode in which MDM installs an endpoint daemon and a central controller integrates with an organization’s identity provider, PKI, and LLM gateway. The company attributed additional components to its agentic stack, including agent, agentgateway, agentregistry, and agentevals, and it cited the project as open source under the Apache 2.0 license.
