SK hynix Inc. launched a corporate venture capital brand, “SK hynix Ventures,” and held an inaugural “SK hynix Ventures Day” in Silicon Valley. The company used the event to bring together its leadership, global venture capital representatives, and startup executives.
The company said the effort was intended to expand strategic partnerships within the global AI ecosystem and to secure future technologies. SK hynix framed the event as a forum for discussing investment strategies with venture firms and startups.
SK hynix said it has operated a CVC organization since 2015, supporting direct investments and indirect investments through fund commitments in early-stage startups in semiconductor and emerging tech sectors. It reported investing across regions including the U.S., China, Israel, and Japan, and described using technological collaborations such as joint equipment development and Proof of Concept (PoC) with portfolio companies.
Through SK hynix Ventures, the company planned to broaden its investment scope beyond traditional semiconductors and emerging tech to the broader AI ecosystem. It cited areas including AI computing, data centers, system software, and optical interconnect, and said the brand included discussions with startup representatives on computing, memory, system software, and optical-based systems for AI data centers. “Competitiveness in the AI era stems not just from rapidly securing innovative technologies, but from ecosystem capabilities where customers, partners, and startups create new value together,” said Kwak Noh-Jung, CEO of SK hynix. “Through SK hynix Ventures, we will support the growth of promising companies and grow into a global partner that jointly designs the future of AI infrastructure based on strategic investments and technological cooperation.”
