More About Globalstar
Globalstar, Inc. operates a LEO Satcom network that delivers mobile satellite services to enterprises, governments, and industrial operators that require connectivity in locations where terrestrial cellular or fixed networks are limited or unavailable. Its offerings target sectors such as energy, maritime, transportation, construction, agriculture, and public safety, where field personnel, assets, and sensors are often deployed in remote or harsh environments.
The company’s portfolio spans satellite voice and data services (satellite communications), satellite IoT connectivity (IoT connectivity), and asset tracking solutions (asset tracking). Globalstar provides duplex services that support two-way voice and data communications, as well as simplex services optimized for one-way data transmission from devices in the field back to enterprise systems. These services are accessed through Globalstar-branded devices and embedded modules, as well as through integrated solutions from partners that utilize Globalstar’s network and licensed spectrum.
Globalstar’s satellite network is based on a constellation of LEO satellites that communicate with ground gateways and user terminals using standardized Satcom protocols and proprietary signaling optimized for low-power field devices. The architecture supports low-latency links compared with higher-orbit systems and is suitable for Telemetry, Tracking, and Command (TT&C) applications. Devices typically integrate GPS/GNSS for positioning and use Globalstar’s uplink channels to transmit location and sensor data to backend platforms, where enterprises can perform monitoring, control, and analytics.
In the IoT and industrial context, Globalstar’s connectivity is used for fleet and asset tracking, equipment monitoring, pipeline and wellhead telemetry, livestock monitoring, and safety-of-life applications such as worker safety beacons and emergency notification. The company offers modules and terminals that OEMs and system integrators can embed into industry-specific hardware, enabling integration with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, telematics platforms, and enterprise asset management tools. This positions Globalstar within the broader categories of satellite IoT connectivity, machine-to-machine communications, and mission-critical field communications.
Globalstar also provides services to other communications providers and technology partners, offering network capacity, satellite spectrum access, and managed connectivity that can be incorporated into consumer or enterprise devices. In this role, Globalstar functions as a wholesale satellite network operator and spectrum provider, allowing partners to augment terrestrial networks with satellite backhaul or fallback coverage. Compared to terrestrial-only connectivity options, Globalstar’s services focus on extending coverage to remote geographies, oceans, and sparsely populated regions, where infrastructure buildout is limited or uneconomical.
For directory and taxonomy purposes, Globalstar fits into categories including Satcom services, satellite IoT connectivity, asset tracking and telematics, mission-critical and emergency communications, and wholesale satellite network and spectrum services for integrators and device manufacturers.
