NXP Semiconductors enhances edge AI with i.MX 95 series
NXP Semiconductors N.V. introduced the i.MX 95 series on August 1, 2025, expanding its i.MX 9 series of application processors. The i.MX 95 series features High performance computing (HPC), immersive 3D graphics with Arm Mali, and a dedicated Machine Learning (ML) accelerator. These capabilities aim to support demands in automotive, industrial automation, networking, and human-machine interfaces.
As the need for edge intelligence rises, the i.MX 95 series incorporates NXP's eIQ Neutron Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and a next-generation Image Signal Processor. This combination enables developers to create efficient edge solutions with real-time ML and enhanced connectivity.
Advantech, a provider of edge computing solutions, announced two compact Computer-on-Modules based on the i.MX 95 platform: the AOM-5521 (SMARC) and AOM-2521 (OSM). These modules utilize a multi-domain architecture with six Arm Cortex-A55 cores at speeds up to 2.0 GHz and a 2TOPS NPU, resulting in up to four times the ML performance and twices the data throughput compared to earlier models.
Designed for advanced edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, the AOM-5521 and AOM-2521 modules enable applications in industrial automation, medical devices, and Internet of Things (IoT). Advantech emphasizes these modules as integral components for developing solutions that enhance capabilities in edge computing.
