Nokia reported expanding global operator work on AI-RAN as operators moved from early evaluation to lab and live field trials. The company tied the activity to operator plans for AI-native 6G networks.
Nokia said operators across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East advanced AI-RAN with multiple partners, including A1 Group, Chunghwa Telecom, du, Mobily, stc, TPG Telecom and Zain Saudi. The company said trials with NTT DOCOMO, INC. continued to progress.
The AI-RAN approach described in the release used Nokia’s AI-native anyRAN software together with NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer. Nokia said the platform delivered more than 20% improvements in spectral efficiency through AI-powered radio innovations and planned further software-driven efficiency gains through 2027 and 2028.

Nokia said its AI-RAN platform combined its software and hardware components to support software-defined architecture for 5G with a software upgrade path to 6G.
