Super Micro Computer, Inc. and Nokia are working to deploy Artificial Intelligence-Radio Access Networks, known as AI-RAN, from distributed cell sites to centralized network hubs. The effort focuses on running radio and AI workloads on shared infrastructure.
Operators can run network and AI workloads on the same infrastructure, which the companies described as improving spectral efficiency, automating network operations, and optimizing energy use. They also pointed to new opportunities for edge AI services, including voice AI, vision AI, physical AI, and internal uses such as autonomous network operations. Those applications call for proximity and predictable service levels.
The stack combines Nokia's RAN technology and software with the NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer platform, supported by Supermicro's AI-optimized infrastructure. NVIDIA ConnectX provides high-speed, software-defined networking, and modular, right-sized CPU and GPU configurations span deployments from cell sites to MSO and aggregation locations. Together, these elements give operators a software-driven path toward 6G networks.
Supermicro's systems vary by deployment point. The ARC MGX 2U Short-depth platform and dual-node ARC-Pro serve distributed cell sites, and each ARC-Pro node pairs an NVIDIA Grace C1 CPU with an RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell Server Edition GPU. Centralized MSO and aggregation sites use the ARC MGX 2U, while core network hubs use the ARC MGX 4U with up to eight RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs.
Supermicro's servers for NVIDIA ARC are generally available now, and the ARC MGX 2U with dual Vera processor is on display at Supermicro's booth at NVIDIA GTC Berlin, October 20–22, 2026. Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro, said, “AI-RAN is redefining networks for AI, turning mobile infrastructure into a shared foundation for connectivity”.
Emma Falck, President of Mobile Infrastructure at Nokia, said, “AI-RAN represents an important step towards more intelligent and adaptable mobile networks”. Soma Velayutham, VP of Telecoms at NVIDIA, said, “AI-RAN brings together networking, accelerated computing, and intelligence”. The 2U ARC-Pro is planned for customer testing later this year, with general availability in the first half of 2027.
