Nokia extends partnership with T-Mobile US to enhance 5G network

Nokia has announced a multi-year extension of its partnership with T-Mobile US to enhance its 5G network across the country. The agreement aims to expand T-Mobile's already extensive network coverage, which reaches over 98% of the U.S. population.

As part of the collaboration, Nokia will provide its AirScale Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio, which includes the latest technologies such as Habrok Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Levante Ultra-Performance baseband solutions. These solutions utilize energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology and focus on boosting the performance and reliability of T-Mobile’s 5G capabilities. Additionally, Nokia will deploy AI-powered solutions for optimizing the network.

The agreement also emphasizes advancing T-Mobile’s network evolution by enhancing operational efficiency, agility, and scalability through next-generation RAN architectures. Furthermore, Nokia will continue to support T-Mobile’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) RAN initiatives through its Innovation Center.

Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology at T-Mobile, highlighted that the new agreement will enhance their network capabilities as they focus on delivering extensive 5G benefits to customers. Justin Hotard, President and CEO of Nokia, expressed that the partnership will enhance connectivity across the U.S., allowing T-Mobile to offer improved performance for its customers.

Nokia has been a long-term partner to T-Mobile in improving its RAN, significantly contributing to T-Mobile's standing as a major player in the U.S. 5G market.
