Movemaker and alcove launch US$200K open-source initiative to establish secure contract library for Aptos developers

Movemaker and alcove have announced an initiative to establish the Aptos Move Secure & General Purpose Base Library, aimed at enhancing the Aptos smart contract ecosystem. This open-source project is a response to concerns over security and development practices in the Web3 space.

The initiative launched with US$200,000 in seed funding from Movemaker and will focus on creating a library of rigorously audited smart contract modules. Key areas covered include access control, upgrade tools, DeFi primitives, and utility functions. The goal is to provide a comprehensive foundation similar to the role of OpenZeppelin in the EVM ecosystem while utilizing the technical advantages of Move and Aptos.

Kaito, a core contributor at Movemaker, commented, “Despite Move's inherent safety, we've seen developers repeatedly rebuild essential modules with varying quality and minimal audit coverage. This project aims to eliminate duplication, improve security, and accelerate dApp development by providing a trusted foundation for all Aptos developers.”

The library will be available to all Aptos builders and will follow a community-led governance model on GitHub, which includes automated testing, peer reviews, and bounty initiatives.

A range of tools and support will be accessible to developers, including:

  • Core Module Library: Reusable components for access control, module upgrades, DeFi primitives, and security utilities.
  • Multi-language SDKs: Support for TypeScript, Python, Rust, Go, among others.
  • Standardized APIs: Simplified access to blockchain data for application developers.
  • Developer Tooling Support: Features such as VS Code plugins and debugging tools.
  • Templates and Example Projects: Boilerplates to expedite dApp development.

Developers interested in contributing to the initiative can find further details and the proposal on GitHub.

The Aptos Move Secure & General Purpose Base Library initiative invites collaboration from project teams, independent developers, and security experts to create a secure and reusable foundation for Move-based smart contract development.
